Frequently Asked Questions about the
HIR Gift Card Program
What is scrip?
Scrip and gift cards are synonymous. HIR purchases gift cards from an online distributor called Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and sells the cards to its members to raise funds for the Bayit.
What is ShopWithScrip?
ShopWithScrip.com is a free online scrip management software from Great Lakes Scrip Center (GLSC).
Since HIR is enrolled with ShopWithScrip.com, you can register and place scrip orders on you own. Scrip coordinators then gather up individual family orders, collect payments, and submit and distribute orders. In addition to the retailers offered by GLSC, the coordinatior has added local retailers such as Riverdale Kosher Market and Glatt Shop.
ShopWithScrip gives you full reporting based on date ranges you choose. You can find sales and earnings history or look at specific order details for your family. All reports can be exported to a text file or spreadsheet for easy customization.
Why you should use ShopWithScrip
This site offers you convenience. ShopWithScrip is a fully secured web application allowing you to place orders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, from any internet connected computer!
ShopWithScrip is more accurate than traditional paper order forms; discounts, products and denominations are updated immediately by GLSC as changes occur.
ShopWithScrip provides timely family reports showing purchase history and current order status.
Who can use ShopWithScrip?
Any family can use ShopWithScrip. However, to place an order you must establish a link from your account to the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale with an enrollment code obtained from the organizations’ scrip coordinator. - 58L43DE621333

How do I get the gift cards?
They can be purchased at the Bayit on special event days, such as Wednesday evenings at the Community Supported Agriculture project on Wednesdays, 5:30 -8:30 in the lower lobby of the Bayit.
The gift cards can be delivered to your home if you live in a doorman building, or they can be picked up at the shul front office during business hours.
Payment must be received before the gift cards will delivered.
How do you pay?
You can pay by check to HIR Scrip. Mail the check to Shira Gordon, 4521 Waldo Ave, Bronx, NY 10471, or drop it off at the shul in the front office.
You can arrange “Presto Pay”, a secure automatic debit system on the website.
You can pay by credit card for purchases over $100. Please call Shira Gordon at 718-549-5280 to make this arrangement at the time of your first order.
You will notice that the website does not have a credit card option at checkout. This is because non-profits like HIR have to pay a processing fee to the credit card companies. This can range from 2-3% of the purchase price and a service fee. HIR has made the decision to accept credit card payments, so make the arrangement with Shira Gordon, and check off the box “Gave check to coordinator” during the checkout section.
How long does it take to get the gift cards?
If the cards are in stock, they can be delivered the next day.
If the cards are not in stock, they can be delivered within 7-10 days.
If “Scrip Now” is ordered, the electronic code can be delivered in minutes once payment is received.
In all cases, payment must be received before gift cards are delivered.
How does the system work at Glatt Shop and Riverdale Kosher Market where there are no physical gift cards?
The amount that you purchase is placed “on credit” in the computerized cash register at the designated store. During check out, you give your name to the employee at the cash register, and your purchase will be deducted from your total credit.
