WHAT IS THE H.I.R.? The Hebrew Institute of Riverdale is an Orthodox Synagogue which serves the entire Jewish community. The Hebrew Institute is a synagogue that warmly embraces all Jews regardless of affiliation, commitment or background. It is affectionately known as the "Bayit", which is a home - a place of love and welcome. The HIR is known nationally for bringing spirituality into the synagogue, for its activism, its learning programs, and its work on behalf of the elderly, homebound, and the mentally and physically challenged. YOM HASHOAH SEDER

Join HIR in the social hall for our annual community Seder where young and old come together to re-tell the experiences of the Holocaust. Hear first hand accounts from Holocaust survivors.
YOM HAZIKARON CEREMONY

In conjunction with Bnei Akiva, HIR invites all to a solemn Yom Hazikaron ceremony in the main sanctuary.

In conjunction with Bnei Akiva, HIR will host a Yom Ha’atzmaut Tefillah Chagigit followed by a delicious BBQ, lively music, dancing and a performance by the HIR Choir.
BRONX ISRAEL INDEPENDENCE DAY FESTIVAL
Thursday, May 8, 5:00pm – 8:00pm
Families, join hundreds of Riverdalians on Yom Ha’atzmaut for a massive celebration in Seton Park. There will be a festival for children and families followed by a lively concert. Sponsored by the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale and the Bronx Borough President, Adolfo Carrion, Jr. Funds collected at this event will be sent to support Israel.
SHABBAT MORNING TRIP TO PELHAM PARKWAY
Shabbat, May 10, 8:00pm
Join us as we bring the joy of Shabbat to Russian Jews in Pelham Parkway. We leave from the Bayit at 8:00am, and will have Kiddush and lunch with the Pelham Parkway Jewish community. On our way back we will stop by the beautiful Botanical Gardens for a Shabbat walk.
LAG BA’OMER MELAVE MALKA
Saturday Night, May 24, 9:30pm
Join together for this enchanted evening filled with song and words of Torah under candlelight in the main sanctuary lobby. Please bring your own instruments, your voices, or just yourselves, and join in the beautiful energy of this soulful evening. Free. No RSVP required.
YOM YERUSHALAYIM FILM FESTIVAL
Sunday, June 1, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Experience a taste of Yerushalayim. Enjoy falafel while watching a moving film about an Israeli soldier, followed by a lively discussion. Program will be followed by a festive musical Maariv outside, weather permitting.

MENTAL WELLNESS DAY
Join us on Sunday, May 18, from 9:00am – 1:00pm for a Mental Wellness Day. Spend the morning engaged in serious text study, hear first hand accounts of people who have stuggled with depression, and lean from professionals in the mental health field of how to recognize signs of illness and implement intervention for your loved ones.
